Peer Support

Milestone’s Peer Support Program provides a unique treatment experience for service recipients.

Specialized therapeutic interventions are provided by self-identified, current or former recipients of behavioral health services. These Peer Support Specialists are certified and trained to offer support and assistance by helping others in their recovery journey and community integration. 

A referral to Milestone’s Peer Support Program must be made by a therapist, service coordinator or nurse and approved by a physician, Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner, Psychiatrist or licensed therapist.

The Peer program supports people in their overall wellness, identifying individual’s strengths, needs and experiences to develop goals and purpose in life. Support includes:

  • Emotional Support – Providing encouragement and understanding based on shared experiences.
  • Model Recovery – Demonstrating hope and success in managing mental health challenges.
  • Navigating Resources – Assist individuals in accessing services such as housing, employment, and healthcare.
  • Promote Self-Advocacy – Empower individuals to speak up for their needs and make informed decisions.
  • Facilitating Peer Support Groups – Group discussions focused on recovery and wellness.
  • Encourage Independence – Support individuals in building confidence and self-sufficiency.
  • Reduce Stigma – Challenge misconceptions about mental health and recovery in the community.
  • Bridge Gaps in Care – Help improve communication between individuals and healthcare providers.
  • Support Crisis Prevention – Identify early warning signs and assist in developing wellness plans.

Participants in Milestone’s Peer Support Program will:

  • Interact with others who understand and support their journey.
  • Learn new skills and hobbies in a safe space.
  • Reduce stress and improve wellbeing through creative social activities.
