Care-Dependent Abuse and Neglect Overview
The goal of this presentation is to engage with the direct support professionals, house managers, program specialists, program managers, county personnel, and families of people who reside in community living arrangements for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities aware that the Attorney General’s office is tasked with investigating and prosecuting abuse and neglect of care-dependent persons. Many of these cases result in the death of the victims. Frequently, paid caregivers are the very people who are responsible for abusing and/or failing to provide the care to these individuals for which they are being paid. We will discuss who we are, Medicaid fraud, abuse and neglect of care-dependent persons, financial exploitation, investigations, and injuries/conditions that are most often indicative of abuse/neglect.
Jennifer Snerr has been employed by the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General for 24 years with the Medicaid Fraud Control Section. In 2013 she was promoted to a Supervisory Special Agent position specifically for the Care-Dependent Neglect team with state-wide responsibility.
